Minister Han Changfu meets Indonesian Agriculture Minister Suswono

Minister Han Changfu met with Mr.Ir. H. Suswono, Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Indonesia, in Beijing on Sept. 18, 2014. The two sides exchanged views on furthering China-Indonesia agricultural exchange and cooperation in an all-rounded manner. Indonesian Minister Suswono is on a visit to China to attend the Third APEC Ministerial Meeting on Food Security.

 

At the meeting, Minister Han spoke highly of the bilateral cooperation in multilateral coordination on agriculture and food security policies, and promotion of two-way investment and trade in agriculture under the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding on agricultural cooperation between China and Indonesia. 

 

In addition, Minister Han put forward a five-point proposal for future cooperation:

Firstly, to further consolidate existing cooperation mechanisms and to hold the third Meeting of China-Indonesia Joint Commission on Agriculture at a proper time; 

Secondly, to enhance cooperation in crop farming, particularly in demonstration on high-quality and high-yield crop production;

Thirdly, to facilitate two-way investment in agriculture and to boost rapid growth in agricultural trade;

Fourthly, to enhance capacity building and technical exchange and cooperation; and

Fifthly, to promote agricultural trade to ensure its sustained development.

 

Suswono strongly agreed with Minister Han on his comments and proposal. He expressed thanks for being invited to the Third APEC Ministerial Meeting on Food Security and wished the Meeting a great success. He also voiced Indonesia''s readiness to work together with China to elevate bilateral agricultural cooperation to a new height.

 

Mr. Bi Meijia,MOA Chief Economist and Director-General of the General Office, and Mr. Soegeng Rahardjo, the Indonesian Ambassador to China, also attended the meeting.
